Finance

Students who graduate with the finance major are prepared to enter positions in corporations, financial institutions, brokerage firms, investment banks, and government. They also are prepared for post-graduate study in all areas of business. Earning a degree in finance enables students to identify the functions of financial markets and institutions and examine their impact on the level of interest rates and interest rate differentials; explore the international integration of financial markets and analyze implications for financial managers; determine and analyze the appropriate measures of risk and return for various financial instruments; and apply the mechanics and regulation of financial securities exchanges to determine the value of stocks, bonds, and securities.

Global Studies (Online)

The BA in Global Studies is designed to prepare students for careers that require an applied and/or theoretical knowledge of the processes driving globalization. Students earning a Global Studies BA will be equipped with strengths in a minimum of three fields of study (Anthropology, Geography and Sociology), a thematic focus, and an area focus. Knowledge of the cultural, political, economic and environmental dimensions of globalization, coupled with skills in social science research methods and theory are increasingly critical for many careers.

International and Public Affairs

The Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs (G-SIPA) brings together many of Florida International University’s internationally oriented disciplines to provide cutting-edge research, first-rate teaching, and innovative training necessary for the globalized world of the 21st century. G-SIPA includes eight signature departments: Criminal Justice, Economics, Global & Sociocultural Studies, History, Modern Languages, Politics and International Relations, Public Administration, and Religious Studies. The School also houses many of the University’s most prominent international centers, institutes, and programs.

Health Services Administration (Online)

The Bachelor of Health Services Administration (BHSA) qualifies graduates for entry-level management positions in health services delivery organizations providing acute and chronic care, rehabilitation and/or health promotion in various health care settings. This degree is a valuable career development pathway for students licensed/certified in clinical health sciences professions but lacking an undergraduate degree; this degree also prepares students for further study at the graduate level in health services administration, public health, and other health science professions (e.g., Athletic Training, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology) given students complete the prerequisite science courses. The program emphasizes systems engineering and financial management of health organizations, health services research, economics, politics and legal aspects of health systems, and program planning and evaluation.

Nursing and Health Sciences

The College of Nursing offers Baccalaureate to Doctoral level in Nursing combines hands on learning with technologically advanced and realistic lab settings. This helps the students to prepare themselves with the highest level of knowledge and skills so they can qualify for job opportunities and achieve their goals in the Nursing community. The school has a Simulation Center and the Rehabilitation Center which have, special labs, real-life care settings, and advanced technology that help the instructor clearly explain and show students how to care for a patient. The College of Nursing and Health Sciences is one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the state and offers education from the Baccalaureate to Doctoral level. History studies past human experience in all its imaginable aspects: economic, social, political, cultural, intellectual, scientific and technological. Relying on a variety of documents, historians develop interpretations of a wide range of the human experience, including scientific and technological breakthroughs, famines, the formation, evolution and conflicts of family groups, mass migrations, wars, cultural encounters, and revolutions. History students are trained to be critical readers, good writers, and astute analysts. These qualities and skills are fundamental for success in business activities, public and professional careers, teaching, and advanced studies. A major in history is it is immediately useful for work in law, journalism, museums, libraries, public service, and the business world.

The human resource management major seeks to provide undergraduate students with a broad overview of organizational management. It offers a flexible program of courses that emphasizes the most current knowledge in the profession. This degree enables professionals to develop and apply HR planning, recruitment, and selection practices conforming to commonly accepted professional standards which are legally sustainable; develop and apply training needs analysis, instructional objectives, training program design which fully utilizes multimedia capabilities, and training evaluation practices to ensure training has a positive return on investment (ROI) for the business; and develop and apply performance appraisal forms and corrective performance management actions including feedback and disciplinary measures that are effective and legally sustainable.

Students develop software in our state of the art labs that offer a variety of operating system and interactive development environments. Information Technology majors focus less on mathematical and theoretical concepts of computing, and more on specific and state-of-the-art technologies than Computer Science majors. Students who want to add a strong theoretical foundation of Computer Science can pursue the Information Technology Software Major track. Typical jobs obtained by recent graduates include, systems administrator, applications support specialist, database administrator, computer programmer, computer analyst, and computer support specialist.
